Bastille, Live at Slessor Gardens Dundee. Support from The Spyres, The LaFontaines and Dylan.

29th July 2023

Glasgow indie band The Spyres took to the stage and for many of the mixed aged crowd they probably didn’t know what to expect from the young band, but I don’t think many were disappointed.

The bands catalogue of songs isn’t very big but since they formed in 2019, they have managed to have over three million Spotify streams with ‘Otherside’, ‘Fake ID’ and ‘I Don’t Care’ which also went down well with the crowd.

The LaFontaines are a band that I have photographed a few times, but they never fail to entertain.

Lead singer Kerr Okan has a swagger and a stage presence that the fans just can’t seem to get enough of when it comes to live gigs. He swaggered across the stage in a raincoat twirling his microphone as he belted out his Hip-hop and pop rock tracks.

The lead singer went walkabout early in the set and at one point it looked like Okan was vanishing into the distance as he got further and further away from the stage, but the fans lapped it up.

The crowd was now warmed up thanks to The LaFontaines but Dylan was about to take the nights entertainment up another notch.

The 23-year-old singer whose real name is Tash Woods is going to be a massive superstar after this performance.

She has already opened for Yungblud. Tate McRae and recently opened for Ed Sheeran at London Wembley stadium.

Her set was full of energey as she ran along the stage giving knee slides and belting out power ballad from Guns and Roses ‘Paradise City.

She seemed to also have a rapport with the audience throughout this performance as she spoke about her struggles and break ups within tracks ‘Someone Else’ and ‘No Romeo’.

The surprise of the night came halfway through her set when lead singer from Bastille Dan Smith took to the stage to sing their duet single ‘Liar Liar’. “The song is about deception from someone that you put your full trust in says Dylan”.

Bastille took to the stage to not only bring an end to two amazing days of music at Slessor Garden but also an end to their Bad Blood 10th Anniversary Tour.

As the band arrived on stage, they announced they would play the full 21 songs from the Bad Blood album, and they got the crowd going from the off with hit song Pompeii.

Nine songs into the set and lead singer Dan Smith decided it was time to take a walkabout into the fans during the track Flaws.

Dan Smith also announced on stage that there had been online appeal so fans could play a role in the gig and the song Laughter Lines was the winner.

After the fans online song came another fans favourite and again, Dan Smith took to a walkabout in the darkness of Slessor Garden.

As the night came to a close and the rain started to come down, Bastille brought on a Saltire which got screams of approval from the audience and sent everyone on their happy way.
