Amy Macdonald

Live Acoustic Album Release Show, Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?

What better way to start the weekend off by photographing one of Scotland’s much-loved artists, Amy Macdonald.

Amy is out on the road touring and promoting her sixth studio album, ‘Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?’ released on the 11th of July. She also embarks on a UK and European tour which includes the Glasgow Ovo Hydro on the 12th of December.

Her first five albums all reached the top five in the charts and a successful number one album in the UK and Germany are just some of the reasons why Amy is adored not just in Scotland but all around the globe.

Tonight, Amy plays Fat Sam’s in Dundee but due to high demand and popularity of the Scottish singer, another earlier gig had to be added.

It was a bit strange going to a gig early in the afternoon but once I arrived at the venue, you could tell Amy’s popularity as the crowd queued in the hot sweltering heat as they waited patiently in the sun for the doors to open.

With her own distinctive Scottish voice, Amy engaged in some good old Scottish banter with the fans. She said, “We like to have a wee dig at our neighbours down south, we like to get one over on them”. This brought huge applause from the fans.

This was a light-hearted dig at the Leeds gig when the fans couldn’t seem to keep in time clapping to one of her songs. After the song, Amy pointed out to a man in the crowd saying, “even the guy with the stookie on his arm could clap in time”.

Before the song Pride, the song she wrote about Scotland, Amy said, “I wrote this after I sang the national anthem at Hampden… Amy also added, I was actually the best person on the pitch that night”, which again got the fans in hysterics.

Amy also mentioned the political establishment in the country and their views of the Scottish people “The politicians don’t help when it comes to Scotland’s drinking culture she said… they just want to put us down”.

Further into the gig, Amy pulled up two people in the crowd for chatting during her performance. Laughingly, Amy shouted, “go to the fecking pub if you want to have a chat”.

This might only have been a short acoustic performance to promote the album but with songs, such as, Hudson, Mr Rock and Roll, Slow It Down, Can You Hear Me, Pride, and This Is The Life, Amy showed her powerful voice throughout the set and had plenty of light-hearted interaction with the fans along the way.

This was a memorable night. The fans left happy as they made their way to the local drinking establishment to refuel on what was a hot sweaty night, but as I walked outside, I could see the next queue gathering for the second performance.

Enjoy the performance, you won’t be disappointed.
